The Examination Committee
The college Examination Committee consists of senior teachers nominated by the Principal. The committee is in charge of all matters pertaining to the examinations includes, preparation of examination time-table, monitoring the process of setting of question papers, assessment and moderation of answer books, declaration of results and any other matter to settle student’s grievances pertaining to the evaluation.

The Powers and Duties of Examination Committee (EC):
Examination Committee shall be responsible for smooth and proper conduct of examination in the Institute.
They shall –
- Ensure proper performance of the various duties in conducting examinations viz. paper setting, time table preparation, assessment, moderation and declaration of results.
- Recommend examination reforms and shall implement them after approval of College Development Committee.
- Prepare the detailed time table of examinations as per the schedule approved by Principal/ IQAC and College Development Committee.
- Arrange for strict vigilance during the conduct of examination so as to avoid use of unfair means by the students, faculty, and invigilators.
- Complaint Redressal Committee (CRC) shall be an independent committee consisting of three members appointed by Chairman, Examination Committee as and when required to deal with the complaints related to the conduct of examinations.
- The recommendations of the CRC shall be approved by Chairman, Examination Committee to take appropriate disciplinary actions in the concerned matter. The disciplinary actions shall be endorsed by the Examination Committee.
- For any meeting of Examination Committee, one-third members shall constitute a quorum.
- All members of Examination Committee shall meet at least twice during the academic year and at other times as and when necessary.
- The various formats shall be prepared by EC for record keeping and monitoring all examination related activities.
- The Examination Committee shall perform such duties and responsibilities that are assigned by College Development Committee, IQAC, of the institute, University of Mumbai and Government of Maharashtra from time to time.
- Give the directions to all our college faculties and non teaching staff for smooth conduct of examination.
- Prepare the master plan for seating arrangement, by taking into considerations the total number of students appearing for the examination and seating arrangement available in the institute.
- Get the examination schedule prepared for the entire programme and send the copy of the same to all Heads of the Department and CDC /IQAC chairman.
- Receive the requirements of answer books, supplements, drawing sheets, graph papers and other material from various departments and keep it ready centrally for distributing to students during examinations. A record of the same shall be maintained.
- Receive the cases of misbehavior, malpractices, copy cases from Examination Coordinators and forward the same to CRC for further necessary action.
- Receive the list of external examiners/ moderators (for conducting practical examinations) for various courses from Heads of the Department for record purpose.
- Seating arrangements shall be made centrally as per the master plan for seating arrangement.
- Examination Committee shall appoint staff for examination as per requirement.
- There shall be one invigilator for a block of 25- 35 (maximum up to 40) students subject to maximum two per class room.
- Reliever: One reliever per three class rooms.
- Invigilators, additional invigilator, and relievers shall be appointed centrally among the faculty of all departments.
- Depending on the need and availability, Examination Committee may change the number of staff for conducting examination.
- On each day of examination, Examination Committee shall open the required number of packets of question papers at least 30 minutes before the start of examination. Prior to opening, however, he shall sign on all the packets indicating the date and time of opening the packets.
- He shall then take out the required number of question papers from the packets and arrange moderator of respective paper to get rectified any discrepancies if found, before distributing them in required quantity to the invigilators.
- Examination Committee shall hand over the required material to the invigilators, at least 20 minutes before the start of the examination.
- The invigilators shall follow the “Guidelines/Instructions to the Invigilators” of the college.
- There shall be continuous monitoring by taking rounds in different examination blocks to confirm that invigilators are performing their duties properly and discipline is being maintained during examination.
- Examination Committee shall forward the cases of misbehavior, indiscipline, malpractices, attempt to copy, copying cases to Unfair Means Enquiry Committee through Examination Committee.
- After receiving the answer books from invigilators, Examination Committee/understudy shall check them as per the attendance record submitted by the invigilators and then sort out the answer books of each course separately.
- Examination Committee/ understudy shall direct the sealing assistant to tie the bundles of answer books of each course separately along with two copies of question papers; copies of attendance sheet, record of supplements issued etc. and pack them.
- Thereafter, he shall handover all packets to the Examination Committee looking after assessment on the same day or latest on the next day. He/she shall maintain the record of all such packets of answer books.
- Office-clerk/understudy (examination) shall maintain the account of answers books and supplements received and consumed for the examination in a register. He shall also prepare the bills of remuneration of all staff involved in the examination work and submit those to Examination Committee for further action.
- Examination Committee shall prepare the bill for remunerations of staff involved in SEE as per rules. Remuneration shall be paid to the staff involved in conduct of examination after the examination is over and account of payment shall be submitted to the office within a month.
For Students / Parents / Stakeholders
Eligibility :–
Eligibility for admission to Examination of First Year. Sem. I
A candidate for being for admission to First Year to the three year degree course leading to Bachelor of Arts, Science and Commerce must have passed H.S.C. (Std. XII) examination conducted by the deferent divisional boards of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
OR
Must have passed the H.S.C.(std XII) examination with vocational subjects/minimum competency based vocational course conducted by the different divisional boards of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
OR
Must have passed an examination of another university or body recognized as equivalent to H.S.C. (std XII) examination.
EXAMINATIONSRULES AND REGULATIONS :-
- Full time Undergraduate Programs.
- Eligibility criteria for admission to UG programme will be as decided by the Directorate of higher Education, Govt. of Maharashtra and University of Mumbai unless specified otherwise.
- The Bachelor of Commerce programme leading to B.Com. Degree will be a Three year (Six semesters) course.
- Criteria for passing regular examinations.
- Students should secure 40% marks in semester end examination of each course and 40% marks in all heads (project work, End Semester Exam) taken together.
- Students should secure 40% marks in re-examinations in all heads. However project work/ assignment/ tutorial marks shall be carried forward for further examination.
- At the beginning of the academic year the college will issue an academic calendar. The calendar will clearly indicate schedule which will include dates of the beginning of two semesters, two In-semester projects work, End-semester examination, Re-examinations and Result declaration.
- Students are required to attend all the lectures and practical sessions. University of Mumbai rules regarding attendance will be followed for deciding the defaulters. Due weight age will be given for extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, provided such absence does not exceed a limit decided as per University of Mumbai.
- There is provision for revaluation in any courses examinationsbut no revaluation ofproject work/ assignment/ tutorial marksaccording to University rules.
- Absenteeism is to be reported by concerned teacher to head of the department regularly and student and his/her parents to be informed accordingly. Proper documentation of communication to the students and parents are to be maintained by concerned teacher.
- A student who has failed in the examinations held by the University of Mumbai prior to 2010-11, will have to clear the relevant examinations of the University of Mumbai.
- *Grade range of regular examination shall be considered as a reference for award of grade.
- *Students award grace marks for passing of heads as per university rules and subject teacher’ resolution.
- In case of any dispute regarding the interpretation of the rules and regulations, the decision of the Examination Committee and college’s Principal will be final.
- For any case which is not covered, the decision of the institutional authorities will be final.

- Eligibility criterion for admission from Sem. I to Sem. II: A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester II irrespective of number of courses of failure in the Semester I.
- Eligibility criterion for admission from Sem. II to Sem. III: A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester III if he/she passes each of Semester I and Semester II OR A LEARNER FAILS IN NOT MORE THAN FOUR COURSES OF SEMESTER I AND SEMESTER II TAKEN TOGETHER WITH NOT MORE THAN TWO COURSES AT EACH OF SEMESTER I &/Or SEMESTER II.
- Eligibility criterion for admission from Sem. III to Sem. IV: A learner shall be allowed to keep term for Semester IV irrespective of number of courses of failure in Semester III.

- Semester End Assessment with 100% marks theory examination of each course, except Foundation Course of Sem. I, II, and III, IV. With 75% marks for theory and 25% of Project work.
- There will be two semesters in one academic year.
- Total six semesters for three year degree course.

UNIVERSITY OF MUMBAI ORDINANCE
UNIVERSITY OF MUMBAI ORDINANCE 5048 : (Amendments of Results Due to errors)
In any case if it is found that the result of ourCollege examination has been affected by errors, the examination committee shall have power to amend such result in such manner as shall being accordance with the true position and to make such declaration as is necessary, with the necessary approval of Principal, provided the errors are reported/detected within 60Days or 6 months from the date of declaration of results. If any errors detected thereafter shall be placed before the Examination Committee.
_ Error means–
(i) Error in computer/data entry, printing or programming and the like.
(ii) Clerical error, manual or machine, in totaling or entering on Ledger/ register.
(iii) Error due to negligence or oversight of examiner or any other person connected with Evaluation and result preparation and any other human errors.
UNIVERSITY OF MUMBAI ORDINANCE – 5049 :-
Appointment of Paper setters, Examiners, Senior Supervisors and conduct of examination etc.
- Appointments of persons as paper setters / Examiners shall be ordinarily made at the time of, End semester examination/start of the semester.
- The paper setters/examiners shall ensure that their availability for assignment is communicated to the examination section, in the prescribed time limit. If no communication is received within the prescribed time limit, it will be presumed that assignment is accepted by the paper setter / examiner.
- The pattern of the End semester examination will be 5 to 7 questions with total score of 100 marks precaution to be taken that full syllabus should be covered.
- Principal shall be the Chief Conductor for all the examinations. Whenever substitute arrangement is required it shall be done only by prior permission of the examination committee.
- Chief conductor shall ensure that the stationery required for the conduct of examinations, question papers, etc. are received at the examination center. He/ She shall also ensure that the packets of question papers are intact and duly sealed and are opened in his/her presence 20 minutes before the start of the examinations in presence of principal, any one examination committee member and two students’ representatives.
- Invigilator shall ensure that the students are not resorting to unfair means / practices. Incase incidences occur; he/she shall immediately report the cases of unfair means to the examination committee/Principal along with his report.
- Immediately after the examination is over, the answer books should be dispatched to the CAP center/examination In-charge.
- The examiners shall submit the grade marks sheet/assessment report, grievance report to the Examination In-charge as provided in the credit system and as per the instructions received by the college/University authorities from time to time.
- As soon as the assessment reports are received in the examination committee members /section, they should be processed immediately for preparation of result.
- The results of the concerned examinations shall ordinarily be declared within the specified period as prescribed in the examination calendar/ academic calendar of the institute and the result along with the grade card sheet will be distributed to the concerned students.
- The answer papers of examinations shall be preserved for a period of at least 3semesters from the date of declaration of result of the concerned examinations.
UNIVERSITY OF MUMBAI ORDINANCE 5050 :-
Ordinance regarding unfair means reported to by the Student
(a) On receipt of a report regarding use of unfair means by any student at any College examination, including breach of any of the rules laid down by the college authorities, for proper conduct of examination, Principal/ Dean Academic shall have power at any time to institute inquiry and to punish such unfair means or breach of the rules by exclusion of such student from the college examination or from any University course in a College either permanently or for a specified period, or by cancellation of the result of the student in the University examination for which the student appeared or by deprivation of any University Scholarship to him/her or by cancellation of the award of any University prize or medal to him/her or by imposition of fine or in any two or more of the aforesaid ways within a period of one year.
(b) On receipt of report regarding malpractices used or lapses committed by any paper setter, examiner, moderator, referee, teacher or any other person connected with the conduct of examination held by the Colleges or Recognized Institution including breach of the rules laid down for proper conduct of examination, Dean Academic shall have power at any time to institute inquiry and to punish such malpractices or lapses by declaring disqualified the concerned paper – setter, examiner, moderator, referee, teacher or any other person connected with the conduct of examination from any examination work either permanently or for a specified period or by referring his/her case to the concerned authorities for taking such disciplinary action as deemed fit asper the rules provided for or any two or more of the aforesaid ways.

Appointment of Paper Setters and Examiners:
- The paper setting of Semester End Examination shall be done by the internal our faculty who is teaching the course.
- A panel of subject experts from our college shall be prepared for this purpose. This step is necessary for gaining the confidence of the University and also of the society at large, on the fairness and transparency in the system.
- Two sets of papers to be possessed for each course.
- The remuneration for paper setting is to be proposed by the Finance Committee.
Central Assessment
- Assessment of answer books of semester end examination shall be done by our college faculties/ evaluators.
- All evaluators to sit together to decide a common scheme of evaluation in writing before beginning assessment.
- Award step-wise marks for each solved question.
- Transfer marks carefully on the front page of the answer book and carry out total of marks correctly.
- Blank pages should be struck and signed by evaluator of the answer book.
- The evaluator shall neither put any comment nor any markings in the answer script. He/she shall place the marks for answers in specified spaces provided on the cover page.
- He shall put signature with his/her name in the space provided on the cover page of the answer book.
- He, who handled the answer book later, should hand over valued answer books to concerned officials.
- Preservation of assessed answer books all valued answer books shall be preserved for three consecutive semesters in strong room of Examination cell.
- Semester End Examination Result will usually be declared on or before45 days from the date of the last examination. After all grievances are addressed, the final result will be declared by Examination Committee on office notice board.
Re-checking :-
If student is aggrieved of SEE marks declared, he/she may apply for the recounting of marks in answer book by paying prescribed fee.
- Re-checker shall see that examinee attempted the questions considering the internal choice and shall check the marks given by the evaluator are as per the marks allotted to the questions.
- Re-checker shall see all questions and sub questions are valued and awarded marks.
- Re-checker shall report to Examination Committee in case of any discrepancy, and Examination Committee shall get it corrected.
Revaluation of Answer books :-
If student is aggrieved of SEE marks declared, he may apply for the revaluation of answer book by paying prescribed fee. All the cases of re-evaluation where the change in marks occur, they should get corrected.
Challenge evaluation :-
If student is not satisfied with SEE result, a facility to get evaluated by the external evaluator along with concerned subject teacher appointed for this purpose. He/she may apply for the challenge evaluation within 15th working days.
The following procedure shall be followed.
- A candidate desirous of challenge evaluation of the answer book(s) shall be required to apply in the prescribed form.
- The candidate shall be required to submit separate application for each course. iii. The candidate shall have to submit application form within 03 days (both days inclusive) from the date of display of marks of the concerned course(s).
- The candidate shall have to submit application to the office of CE after paying requisite fee per answer book or such fee as may be prescribed by the Institute from time to time.
- Candidate will be responsible for submitting application in prescribed time limit. An application form received after the last date will not be accepted.
- Upon receipt of the application, the paper to be scrutinized for the following.
- Whether the total marks displayed in the given paper matches with the marks awarded to the candidate on the cover page of the answer book.
- Whether the question-wise marks awarded to all the questions inside the answer book are correctly carried over on the cover page
- Whether the total of the question-wise marks on the cover page is correct.
- Whether all the answers in the answer book have been assessed by the examiner. If any question or part of it in the answer book is observed to be un-assessed, the same shall be got assessed from the examiner in the subject and additional marks, if any, awarded shall be then carried, noted and added on the cover page also and accordingly the total of the marks shall be corrected. e. The CE shall issue corrected statement of marks to the concerned department for display.
Guidelines/Instructions to the Invigilators:
The invigilators shall enter the examination hall at least 15 minutes before the start of examination.
He shall,
- Ask the students to keep their books, note books, mobile phones and their written materials at the front of the hall/outside the hall. Enter correct seat numbers; use only blue /black ink for writing.
- Check whether the students have occupied their seats as per the seating arrangement.
- Distribute answer books to the students at least 10 minutes before the start of the examination and ask them to fill in correct details on the front page of the answer books,
- Distribute the question papers to the students at the beginning of the examination,
- Check the identity cards/ exam hall ticket of the students and sign on their answer books, if all details are correct.
- Take the signature of students on the attendance proforma, mark “AB” for absent students in red ink and maintain the attendance record of his/her examination hall,
- Distribute the supplements, graph papers to the students as and when demanded by the students and maintain the record of supplements issued in the given proforma,
- Maintain general discipline in the classroom by frequently moving in the examination hall and preventing any malpractices or attempt of copying by students.
- Report cases of misbehavior, indiscipline, malpractices and copying cases of students to the examination committee for further necessary action,
- Give warning to the students to tie their supplements,10 minutes before the end of examination,
- Collect the answer books from the students at the end of examination and arrange them sequentially as per the examination seat numbers of students for each course separately,
- Hand over the answer books and filled in proformatounderstudy/examination committee.
Unfair Means Enquiry Committee
(Subject to amendment by University of Mumbai)
Students restoring to the use of unfair means during the examinations conducted by the college by themselves or on behalf of the university or by the university itself are requested to note that the minimum punishment recommended by the university (vide circular no.UG/139 OF 2001 DATED 23RD APRIL 2001) is Annulment of the performance of the student at the university/college/institution examination in full. Unfair Means Enquiry Committee :-
INTRODUCTION :-
Unfair Means Enquiry Committee established in our college as per the guidelines given by the University of Mumbai. The Unfair Means Enquiry Committee is authorized to take disciplinary action against a student for misconduct during examination conducted by the college. They can decide quantum of punishment after reviewing nature of malpractices at theory, practical / project report examination. No candidate shall use unfair means or indulge in disorderly conduct at or in connection with examinations
Here “Candidate” means an examinee taking an examination. “Examination” means any examination, midterm, semester end, quizzes, practical, project work etc. which are considered as part of assessment/evaluation by the instructor while awarding grade/marks in any subject/courses.
Objectives:
- To plan and conduct the College and University examinations.
- To motivate students for hard work and Fair Examination
- To develop confidence among the students for Success in all walks of life
- To implement Copy-free campaign.
- To ensure honesty and fairness during examination.
- To avoid any malpractice during examination.
- To arrange the meeting and the decisions report to the higher authorities in malpractices cases.
Unfair means shall include the following :-
- During examination time having in possession or access to
- Any paper, book, note or any other unauthorized material which has relevance to the syllabus of the examination paper concerned.
- Mobile Phones or any electronic gadget other than simple calculator, even in switch off mode, which can potentially be used for communication or copying.
- Anything written on any other instrument or any kind of furniture or any other substance which may have relevance to the syllabus of the examination paper concerned.
- Anything written or signs made on the body of the candidate or his/her clothes/garments, handkerchief etc which may have relevance to the syllabus of the examination paper concerned.
- Anything written on the question paper which may have relevance to the syllabus of the examination paper concerned.
- Giving or receiving assistance in answering the question paper to or from any other candidate/person in the examination hall or outside during the examination hours.
- Talking to another candidate or any unauthorized person inside or outside the examination room during the examination hours without the permission of the invigilating staff.
- Swallowing or attempting to swallow or destroying or attempting to destroy a note or paper or any other material.
- Impersonating any candidate or getting impersonated by any person for taking the examination.
PUNISHMENT :-
A candidate found using unfair means or involved in disorderly conduct or disturbing other candidates, at or in connection with an examination shall be referred to Unfair means enquiry Committee. The committee after consideration of the case as referred to it by instructor/invigilator can award punishment. The punishment awarded by this committee will be in addition to the punishment that may have been already awarded by the course coordinator with one or more of the following
- Cancellation of the examination of the paper in respect of which he is found to have been guilty; and/or
- Cancellation of the examination of the semester examination for which he was a candidate and/or debarring from examination for future semester(s).
- Any other punishment deemed suitable by the committee.
- Students resorting to the use of unfair means during the examinations conducted by the College on behalf of the University or by the University are requested to note that the minimum punishment recommended by the University (vide circular no. UG / 139 OF 2001 DATED 23RD APRIL 2001) is “Annulment of the performance of the Student at the University / College / Institution Examination in full”. The above action is recommended in case the student is found in possession of the copying material. If it is established that he/she has actually copied from the material, the recommendation is “Exclusion of the student from the University or College or Institution Examination for one additional examination”. The above referred circular is available with the Examination Committee for your reference.
NORMS OF PUNISHMENT :-
The following norms for punishment are laid down.
- If the candidate is found having in his possession of any material relevant to the syllabus of the examination paper concerned but has not copied from or used it,
- The punishment will be the cancellation of the examination of that particular paper and he/she will be awarded 00 marks/ F grade in that paper with all the consequences to follow. However, if the material found in possession of the candidate is of insignificant nature the punishment may be relaxed to the extent that he/she will be given the chance to reappear in the examination.
- If a candidate is found to have copied from or used the material caught,
- The punishment will be the cancellation of the present semester examination and he/she shall be awarded 00 marks/ F grade in all the papers of that semester with all the consequences to follow.
- If the candidate is found talking to another candidate or to any unauthorized person inside or outside the examination hall during the examination hours without the permission of the invigilator his examination in that paper may be cancelled and F grade will be awarded in that paper with all the consequences to follow.
- If the candidate is found reading or possess some incriminating material relevant to the syllabus of the paper in verandah, urinal etc his/her examination in that particular paper or his whole semester examination depending on the gravity of the offence shall be cancelled.
- If the candidate is found giving or receiving assistance in answering the question papers to or from any other candidate/person in the examination hall or outside during the examination hours, his/her examination in that particular paper will be cancelled and F grade will be awarded in that paper with all the consequences to follow.
- If the behavior of the candidate on being caught is unsatisfactory or the candidate uses resistance/violence against the invigilator or any person on examination duty or consistently refuses to obey the instructions, the above punishments may be enhanced according to the gravity of the offence as deemed fit by the Unfair Means Committee.
- All such cases shall be reported to the Principal and Examination Committee in its subsequent meeting.
