“Today’s science is tomorrow’s technology.” Physics is foundational to all branches of engineering and technology. A solid understanding of Physics is essential for addressing complex problems. Our department focuses on applied areas such as lasers, superconductivity, fiber optics, nanotechnology, and shock waves etc.

Department of Physics established in the year 2012 and running academic programs at UG level. There is one well equipped laboratory in the department. The department is enriched with learning resources such as charts and modern facilities like computers, internet and LCD. These resources help the students in independent learning.

The Department teaching faculty is actively involved in research in various fields of Physics .Head of the Department, Assist. Prof. Mrs. Suvarna Patel has a 10 yrs experience.

Since its inception in 2012, the Department of Physics has established a proud record of quality education, maintaining a 95% pass rate in the UG Physics department. We are equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and necessary equipment, adhering to the University of Mumbai norms and syllabus. Our faculty are highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated to student success.

VISION :-

  • To establish a foundation for excellence in research and academics within the field of Physics as an integral part of our curriculum.

MISSION :-

Best Practices of the Department

Title: Non-Conventional Energy

Goals:

  • To educate about different forms of
  • To emphasize the importance of solar energy and other non-conventional energy
  • To promote energy saving through the use of LED lamps, solar lamps, and solar

Context:

M.M. Jagtap College is located in a semi-rural area, with many students coming from nearby villages where power cuts are common. The local community often lacks knowledge about non-conventional energy sources and energy-saving methods. To address this, the Department of Physics launched a ‘Save Energy’ campaign.

Practice:

  • On January 9, 2022, the department conducted a save energy campaign in various native places of Sc. students, including Birwadi-Rajewadi and Vahur.
  • Assistant Professors Smt. Suvarna Patel and K.B. Shinde delivered lectures on the introduction of Physics, its day-to-day applications, and the importance of solar energy at M.M. Jagtap College on February 13, 2022.
  • On February 28, 2022, the department organized an ‘Energy Exhibition’ on the college premises, which was attended by students and staff from nearby schools.
  • The exhibition was visited and appreciated by Honourable Shri. Chikale Sanjay (member of Lokvikas Samajik Sanstha Mahad) and Principal Joshi of Shriwardhan College.
