After freedom, various educational Institutions came forward to expanding their area and activities for mass education. Primary and secondary education reached up- to- the villages but higher Education was available only in the limited cities. In konkan ,tribal and rural community became active with the changing time and took interest to have higher education at each and every villages the students of Mahad region especially Muslim girls were facing various problems due to the lack of availability of higher education facility. All these problems have inspired the educational loving citizen of Mahad region to establish a new college, which was open on July 2009.
Mahad is situated on the river of Savittry and Mahad is a city in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. Mahad is 180 kms. from Mumbai and 120 kms from Pune. Mahad has become a tourist destination due to its beautiful surroundings. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Satyagraha at Chavdar Lake here and this place became immortal in history. Mahad’s specialty has increased due to its mythological, historical, Social and traditional significance.
Initially, our college was started with the Commerce and Arts faculty in the premises of Municipal building of Marathi school No 1 at shivaji chowk. And next year Our College started Science faculty with 127 students. Now we are imparting higher Education up to graduate level in Arts, Science, and Commerce, as well as Jr. College started from 2016-17 and showing good performance.
It is one of the fastest growing college in Mahad. The college is established with an objective of imparting quality education for economically and socially weaker sections of the society. The college aims as complete physical, intellectual and emotional personality development of the students. The main function of education system is to produce citizens not only with full of diversity in knowledge but also personalities with positive attitude and inspired with the spirit of service. We have appeal all the sections of society to join hands together in this mission of nation building.
The institution has 22 teachers with adequate Qualification and experience of teaching and they always involved themselves in various activities which lead to the development of students.
From September 2021 the college has shifted at municipal building Marathi School No 5 near SBI bank. This location of our college is really very ideal. It is surrounding by big play ground and middle of the city and near of S.T. bus stand.
The college has been conceived as a dream to provide education to all strata of society and it has been steadfastly doing so for the last 13 years. The college is affiliated to University Of Mumbai with a solemn commitment with addressing the needs of a dynamic society. The biggest challenge faced by education is to prepare students for the challenges of a globalized world. Students of today face a world that continually demands new knowledge and abilities, and world that requires the students to become adaptable, life- long learners in an ever changing scenario of new skills and competencies.
The importance of instilling good values in our students is our prime objective. For our college, education and character are the basic foundations and it is laid by the morality, empathy, motivation, positive attitude and endless enthusiasm. The core purpose of the college is to inspire students to discover their unrevealed potential and to take them from their ‘dreams to duties’. भारतीय स्वातंत्र्यानंतर, विविध शैक्षणिक संस्था व सार्वजनिक उपक्रम उच्च शिक्षण वाढवण्यासाठी पुढे आले. प्राथमिक आणि माध्यमिक शिक्षण खेड्यापाड्यापर्यंत पोहोचले, पण उच्च शिक्षण फक्त मर्यादित शहरांमध्येच उपलब्ध होते. कोकणातील ग्रामीण आदिवासी समाज बदलत्या काळानुसार शिक्षणात सक्रिय झाला आणि प्रत्येक गावातील तरुणामध्ये उच्च शिक्षण घेण्याची आवड निर्माण झाली.
महाड विभागातील विद्यार्थ्यांना विशेषत: मुस्लिम मुलींना उच्च शिक्षणाच्या सुविधा उपलब्ध नसल्यामुळे विविध समस्यांना तोंड द्यावे लागत असे. या सर्व समस्यांमुळे महाड विभागातील शिक्षणप्रेमी नागरिकांना नवीन महाविद्यालय स्थापन करण्याची प्रेरणा मिळाली. त्याचाच एक भाग म्हणून माजी आमदार कॅप्टन मा.माणिक मोतीराम जगताप यांनी महाड शहरामध्ये एक नवीन उच्च शिक्षणासाठी महाविद्यालय सुरु करण्याचे ठरविले. त्याप्रमाणे जुलै 2009 मध्ये एम.एम.जगताप कॉलेज ऑफ आर्ट्स,सायन्स व कॉमर्स महाड –रायगड. हे महाविद्यालय कायम बिना अनुदान तत्वावर सुरु केले.
महाड हे शहर सावित्री नदीवर वसलेले असून ते महाराष्ट्राच्या कोकण भागातील एक महत्वाचे शहर आहे. महाड पासून जवळच छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजाची राजधानी रायगड किल्ला आहेत तसेच चवदार तलावावर डॉबाबासाहेब आंबेडकर यांनी पाण्यासाठी सत्याग्रह करून हे स्थान इतिहासात अजरामर केले आहे. पौराणिक, ऐतिहासिक, सामाजिक, पारंपारिक आणि औद्योगिक महत्त्वामुळे महाडचे शौक्षणिक महत्व वाढले आहे.
सुरुवातीला जून 2009-10 मध्ये शिवाजी चौकातील मनपाच्या इमारतीमध्ये मराठी शाळा क्रमांक १ येथे वाणिज्य व कला शाखेने आमचे महाविद्यालय कायम विना अनुदान तत्वावर सुरु झाले. त्या नंतर सायन्स शाखा सुरु केली.2015-16 पर्यंत कॉलेजची विद्यार्थी संख्या सुमारे ७५० च्या वर गेली. आम्ही सन 2017-18 पासून इंग्लिश माध्यमाचे ज्युनियर कॉलेज सुरु केले आहेत. ज्युनियर कॉलेजसह कला, विज्ञान आणि वाणिज्य या विषयात पदवीपर्यंतचे उच्च शिक्षण देत आहोत आणि चांगली कामगिरी दाखवत आहोतहे कॉलेज महाडमधील सर्वात वेगाने वाढणाऱ्या कॉलेज पैकी एक आहे.

जुलै २०२१ पासून सदर कॉलेज हे मनपाच्या मराठी शाळा क्रमांक ५, स्टेट बँक ओफ इंडिया महाड जवळ स्थलांतरीत झालेले आहे. येथे एक मोठे क्रीडांगण असून शहराच्या मध्यभागी आणि बसस्थानकाजवळ आहे. कॉलेज कडे पुरेशी उच्च शिक्षित व अनुभवी शिक्षक वर्ग उपलब्द आहे. ते नेहमी विविध उपक्रमामध्ये सहभागी होण्यासाठी विद्यार्थांना प्रोसाहन देतात. आमच्या कॉलेज मध्ये वार्षिकोत्सव व विविध सांस्कृतिक क्रीडास्पर्धाचे आयोजन केले जाते. त्यामुळे विद्यार्थांचा सर्वांगीण विकास होतो. आमच्या विद्यार्थ्यांमध्ये चांगले संस्कार रुजवणे हे आमचे प्रमुख उद्दिष्ट आहे.महाविद्यालयाचा शिक्षण आणि चारित्र्य हा मूलभूत पाया आहे आणि तो नैतिकता, सहानुभूती, प्रेरणा, सकारात्मक दृष्टीकोन आणि आंतरिक उत्साह यांनी घातला आहे.
